Turkish city Kemer

The small but modern tourist town of Kemer is located on teh Mediterranean coast, is about 40 kilometers south of city Antalya. It is quite expesive in Kemer, becouse a lot of Russians and Germans come here. But its environment is beautiful, well-kept parks, quality service. Kemer is a suitable place for lovers of more demanding holidays, who are not intersted in solving any small things at any time, but want to rely on quality and more expensive servies.

Just outside the boarders of Kemer are the beautiful limestone mountains of Olympos National Park.

What you will see in Kemer

You won´t find anything like the center of Kemer. The oldest buildings in Kemer are located near the old main road and perhaps the most beautiful places in the pedestrian zone, which leads from the main junction to the port of Kemer. The main pedestrian zone is perpendicular to the old main street and can not be overlooked. The rest of the development in Kemer consists of family houses, which over the years have turned a lot into small guesthouses, mainly near the sea, and then of course hotels. But in the immediate vicinity of the beach behind the local green park there are mainly large hotels, there are quite a lot of them and they are very well maintained, modern and interesting at first glance. As we have already mentioned, there are many family houses and small guest houses with gardens in Kemer, there is also a large number of parks, so the environment is pleasant and green.

A small stream stretches along the northern part of Kemer, the environment of which is also beautifully maintained, looking like a park. Not far behind this stream to the north is another hotel area of new hotel complexes.

A minor disadvantage of the city of Kemer, for some its is an advantage, is that there is no real Turkish ordinary life in Kemer. There are not a large number of street vendors in the city, nor the Turks, who rush to work in the morning, and if you want to chat with the Turk in Kemer, just for his profit, not friendly talk. If you are interested in getting to know such ordinary Turkish life, you have to go a little more to the mountains beyond Kemer or go on a trip to the Antalya city.

Swimming and beaches in Kemer

There are two beaches in Kemer which are separated by a marina and a smaller peninsula. The sand is smooth on both beaches, the beaches are long and well maintained and clean. In some places you can even come across small stones, but nothing big at all. The beach at the south end is not accessible, its private. Of course the high season the beaches are full of sun beds with parasols, which mostly belong to the hotels and are charged. Pools are a matter of course. Almost every hotel in Kemer has its own hote swimming pool, which is not accessible to foreigners, only to hotel guests. There is also an aquapark in Kemer, if you like to having fun, but it´s small. It has three water slides and two swimming pools.

Prices in Kemer

There are many restaurants in Kemer, but most of them are tourist restaurants which are relatively expensive. If you had to the restaurant further from the sea, you can find a Pasa Kebab, which is a bit richier in classic local Turkish cuisine. In the restaurants on the main street the food is around 60 Turkish lira. Is not that bad, but relatively expesive in relation to Turkish cuisine. If you want to buy fresh fruit or vegetables in groceries, we recommend heading half a kilometer up the mountain from the sea to the main street, where you will find classic self-service markets and local markets. Don´t forget it´s much more better to pay in Turkish lira, than in Euro or Dollar.

Don´t forget about the purchasin of fur and gold, especialy fur. It is necessary to alway negotate the prices, not t o accept the first offer, but try to get the price to the lowest possible level.

What language do merchants in Kemer speak? Broken English, German and Rusiian mostly.
